Fir/Spruce sheathing in either Degrade or Standard are just two of the most common grades used in the construction phase of a building project. Another common item is O.S.B. (Oriented Strand Board). It's uses are not so versatile because of the limitations to the products strength and longevity in environments exposed to moisture and the elements.

        M.D.O. - Exterior Sign Board

Medium Density Overlay is widely used to create exterior signage either painted and/or finished with decals. While the creation of the panel was inspired by the need to create a superior and reliable sign board, the actual practical use of this material can substitute many other options. Common thicknesses include 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 1". Common finishes include raw craft paper, primed and prefinished white.

         H.D.O. - Concrete Forming Plywood

High Density Overlay is primarily used as a means for concrete forming; however, a similar looking sheet known as highway grade is an excellent option for a highly water resistant paint ready panel. It's important to talk to someone who knows the product well enough before engaging in construction because even though they may look the same, one is made to resist and the other is made to accept product. Common thicknesses include 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 1".

Exotic hardwoods are typically used in an interior application such as high end cabinetry or in a wine cellar. Some mills produce an exterior marine grade plywood faced with Keuring, Meranti or Okoume; but, generally because of the nature and expense of the wood, they are to be used indoors. We do not inventory too many options in rare exotics but if the veneer is available, we can accommodate.

Your project may call for something that is a step up from regular sheathing. It might be a good option to use a domestic sanded (Paint Grade) product. Whether you are looking at a Canadian or a US product, the quality will be similar but the name given to the grade may be different. Some common grades of Canadian sanded products are Select, G1S and Marine. In the US it is more common to use a letter grade combination to refer to the grade of sanded plywood such as BCX or ACX. Almost all grades are available in Fir but not always available in Mahogany or spruce.

All pre-finished panels that we inventory here are finished via a UV baked process. The Ultra Violet paint is applied in 5 layers to the panels along with 3 epoxy sealer coats to complete the panel. We readily have this product available in 1/4", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4". The 1/4" is available in 1 side or 2; but, all other thicknesses are generally only available in a 2 sided option.

One major product that falls under this category is fibre board (LDF, MDF and HDF) Low Density, Medium Density and High Density respectively. This product is very common. At all times, we inventory 49"x 97" sheets of MDF in thicknesses of 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 1". Not only is this product used in it's raw form, but as well as a substraight for a veneer layup.

Melamine and K3 are the two other particle board products commonly used. Melamine is a cost effective finished grade product primarily used in cabinetry applications. Furthermore, it is available in a wide selection of colors and patterns. While K3 can be incorporated into cabinetry, it is almost always used in areas unseen such as support or as underlayment of floors.

Covering a manhole, protecting your lawn before a backhoe drives over it or temporarily sheeting up a broken window doesn't always call for expensive finished plywood. That is why we offer very economical options classified under the grade of Dunnage, Economy, and Utility. The dunnage and economy grades are quite similar. For the most part, the sheets are rough around the edges or slightly used by the mill we obtain them from. Because of the nature of our utility grade, do not anticipate using it for any purpose beyond simple ground cover. We grade it ourselves and do not guarantee it's integrity or reliability.
